The logo represents the sources of all things Carmelite. Along the range of Mt. Carmel there is a small valley, the Wadi es Shiah (Valley of the Martyrs), indicated by the two hill peaks. In this valley, opening to the Mediterranean, the first Carmelites (12th c.) lived as hermits in the available caves. In their midst, they built their first chapel, St. Mary of Carmel (13th c.). The stylized chapel is shown reflecting on the nearby ''fountain of Elija''; for in their Rule, the Carmelites are described as located '''iuxta fontem Eliae.''

About Carmelite Digest

Carmelite Digest is a Catholic quarterly published in spring, summer, fall, and winter by the California-Arizona Province of Discalced Carmelite friars. Our publication is read by religious and lay people throughout the world. We proudly present a magazine written mostly by Carmelites, both religious and secular. Our articles center on Carmelite spirituality and also bring our readers news about the Discalced Carmelite Order, the Carmelite family, and the Church.

From the Editor:

Welcome to the Carmelite Digest website, which gives you an opportunity to see what our publication is about. As editor of Carmelite Digest, the staff and I are working hard to bring our readers articles interesting in spiritually and that will give information about the Carmelite family and saints. We are striving to make Carmelite Digest attractive starting with the cover and throughout the entire magazine.

Our magazine presents not only Carmelite history and spirituality but also people and places connected with Carmel. Carmelite Digest not only brings you interesting articles about our family and saints, but we try to include human-interest stories that show the different ways people journey the road seeking God's will and his love. We have articles from writers who travel many different roads in life - such as our friars, nuns, our secular order, and those who are interested in our Carmelite way of life. Many of our writers are renowned authors, teachers, and leaders in spirituality.

We hope that you will find this website helpful in seeing what Carmelite Digest has to offer. We have made several excerpts of articles available to you, and we have made it possible for you to see what issues of Carmelite Digest are available. It is our hope that you will find our publication interesting enough to want to take a subscription.
